Minutes of Dinghy Section Meeting Held on 3rd
December 2008

1 Minutes of the A.G.M. held on the 12th November 2008
Agreed that the minutes be confirmed.
2 Reflection of the A.G.M.
Noted
- There
was a discussion about the clubs website and the need to update it. David Cairncross is responsible for the website. The way the
website works could not be altered significantly as this would involve creating
a whole new website.
- Possibilities
of adding software to allow the dinghy rota to be changed on line.
- Concerns
were raised and discussed over the actual number of members turned away.
Agreed
- At
the next meeting the committee would print out pages from the existing
website and would go through these pages making amendments and updating.
This would then be presented to David Cairncross
so that he could update it
- Possibilities
of allowing access to the dinghy sections pages to add newsletters and
meeting minutes was to be explored.
- The
timing of the dinghy sections A.G.M. needs to be synchronised with the
clubs financial year. The AGM will be moved to January.
- An
open day for people to try classes of boats to be organised.
3 Reflection of this years sailing.
4 What is hot? What is not?
Noted
- The
weather had been poor and this had affected the numbers sailing on a
regular basis.
- Fluctuations in the asymmetric class was down to the
range in sailing experience and the general weather conditions. The first
asymmetric series was well supported but the second series was not.
- There
was an increase in the Flying Fifteen fleet, racing continued to be close.
Agreed
- The
asymmetric series would be run in the Spring
series.
- An
asymmetric open would be organised as a one day event ( Saturday)
- More
notice to be given for the club regatta.
- A
calendar meeting with the sailing secretary would be arranged by Idris to allow the sailing events to be scheduled.
- Possibility
of a 3 club event to be arranged Idris to
examine possibility.
5) Thoughts
for next years sailing
Noted

There is a need to hold workshop sessions to
explain the new sailing rules.

Idris will look into
the possibility of running a Flying Fifteen series in January/ February

·
Nick Sawyer, Paul Simes
or John Warbaton to be approached to run a series of
3 or 4 sessions on the new rules. Helen Phillips to arrange.
·
30 copies of the new rule book to be purchased by
the dinghy section. These will be distributed to members when the racing fee is
collected.
·
Laser training to be continued next year Idris will organise this for the end of March.
6) Re
organisation of the Dinghy Compound
Agreed
- Idris will measure the concrete area in the dinghy
compound to see if it is feasible to move the Flying Fifteens to this area.
- Boat
usage needs to be assessed at the end of the season.
7) Health
and Safety
Noted
- The
need for suitably qualified dinghy members in the safety boat .
- Which
members were qualified? How do we Know?
- What
safety boat equipment was needed a list was drawn up.
Agreed
- There
was a need to draw up a register of dinghy members that are qualified in
first aid and dinghy members that
hold necessary power boat qualifications. Andrew Phillips was to look into
this
- The
club will run safety boat training. An e- mail will be sent out to all
dinghy members to notify them. Any one wishing to be trained now needs to
contact Ruth in the office.
- Idris will purchase safety equipment for the safety
boat. This will be contained in a grab bag.
8) Communication
to all Dinghy members.
Agreed
- More
information needs to be included in Bear Essentials with more emphasis on
up and coming events.
- The
dinghy berthing request form to be changed to include an up to date e-mail
address for members thus allowing a directory of addresses to be created
and up dated on a yearly basis.
- Possibilities
on editing the dinghy page on the website to allow up to date information
to be added. It was felt that this was a more central location and it
would allow all members to access it.
9) A.O.B.
Noted
- Laying
up supper was a great success. It was suggested that a Spring
or Summer presentation evening was held at Cardiff Yacht Club.
